Monika Hanna

Associate – Litigation Group

Civil & Commercial Litigation
Corporate & Commercial

Monika is an associate within the Litigation Group at Abrahams LLP and maintains a broad practice focussed on commercial litigation.

Monika achieves favourable settlements for clients, while advocating for their rights with resilience. She has effectively advocated and acted for clients in matters involving construction liens, shareholder rights and oppression remedies, contractual disputes, creditor-debtor disputes, mortgage enforcement, secured creditor remedies, and real property disputes. Monika applies a shrewd and temperate approach to acrimonious matters, by identifying root issues and then addressing them strategically and with tact.

Prior to focusing primarily on commercial litigation, Monika developed experience in business transactions. Before joining Abrahams LLP, she worked at boutique law firms in Toronto that specialize in the practice areas of criminal, family, immigration and refugee law. Monika leverages these diverse experiences and her innate drive for justice to advocate and seek tailored resolutions for clients.

Academic Background:
Monika received her Bachelor of Laws with Honours, LL.B. (Hons), from BPP University Law School in London, England. Throughout her studies, she was an avid leader in non-profit organizations and pro bono initiatives. Within one entrepreneurial organization, Enactus, Monika held the executive role of Vice President and led team members to draw upon business innovations to empower marginalized individuals. She also attained several highest academic achievement awards. In her final year of law school, Monika received an award of distinction for her legal research project premised on the correlation between medical law, international human rights, and business.

Monika enjoys engaging in public advocacy work in varying capacities, both in Canada and abroad. Currently, she serves as an executive member of the Canadian Bar Association’s Constitutional and Human Rights Section and the Child and Youth Law Section. Monika also serves within the Office of the General Counsel for an international organization, International Justice Mission, advising on corporate governance and maximizing the productivity of global enterprises.

Aside from advocacy roles, Monika loves exploring cities and recently gained a new appreciation for sightseeing in her own neighbourhood.

Monika is fluent in English and Arabic.
